Bella & Diana take the lead

The Girl Power Clubs "Reach Out Week" ran from 20 - 23 August 2013 and attracted a little over 60 girls. The workshop formed part of a series that are carried out every holiday giving the girls who were away over term time a chance to meet with the rest, cover topics in the Goal Program that they may have missed or worked on partially, share, bond with each other, learn , play – and get involved in community activities. Its a great a time when we, at the Girl Power Clubs office, get to know individual girls. Girls who can learn to learn and express themselves and be leaders at the same time. Jayoung Naphtalie Margaret took them through most of the indoor activities , while Diana Amollo and Bella Achieng handled the out door activities including ice breakers. LVCT-Kenya ran the HIV/AIDS awareness and GBV training with the help of Purity Murungi and John.  Dr. Liz , the Program Director and Patron provided logistical supportr

Day 1: 20thAugust 2013
Workshop kicked of with 40 girls in attendance. Girls were taken through Goal Module 1: Be Yourself and Goal Module 3: Be Empowered. Goal Champions assisted with running the sessions.

Day 2: 21st August 2013

We started off with an ice breaker session led by Bella and Diana and Mrs. Margaret Masime (Deputy Principal, Malezi School). Goal Module 4: Be Money Savvy was interesting and girls learned basic skills on making jewellery as part of the entrepreneurship module.
In the afternoon, the girls teaming up to play football, handball, basketball and the most enjoyable part of the day….swimming!

Day 3: 22nd August 2013 .

Dat three, and the girls had half of the day to cover Module 2, “Be Healthy”. After lunch, we played some football before we had a Tree Planting Session, with groups of 5 girls each planting a tree seedling. We planted 14 of them to mark the week and each to remember each other.

 Day 4 23rd August 2013.
LVCT- Kenya  (Liverpool VCT), represented by Purity Murungi and John ran an HIV/AIDS awareness training session. This was followed by basic training in GBV as well as Counselling and Testing. In the afternoon, girls danced, sang and recited poems to each other.  We even had some toddlers join and their young mothers on this day! You seek even with endless responsibilities, these young mothers chose to have faith in themselves, pick their lives and own it once again, give some trust to people who can encourage them and give them a push forward.
The day ended with programme director Dr. Liz Odera awarding certificates to all attendees!

Our Special thanks goes to;
All facilitators that made the workshop work and especially the attendance of LVCT- Kenya.  We really do appreciate the work you did with us even at short notice.
