Netball Challenge

The 2010 Girl Power Month Netball Challenge kicked off on a high note yesterday with more than 11 teams braving the rather unlikely and unpredictable weather to come and play quality girls’ netball. With the level of organization depicted by organizers and the level of discipline shown by the players-all from Kibera schools, the event was fore-seen to be a very successful event. We all understood the need for the girls to converge and play netball, but our main aim was to instill life skill lessons into these young and ambitious players who also double up to be the soon to be leaders of tomorrow. The best part of the event is when we have the girls being taught on how to maintain hygiene, understand their rights and also understand what proper sexual behaviour entails. Rehema Akinyi who is a tennis coach at Sadili and a major organizer of the girls’ events took the girls through the best of guidance and counseling during the entertaining unique netball event. The event viewed by many girls as the platform to air views and prove their worth is here to stay judging with the level of competition shown by some girls’ schools. Major favourites Mashimoni squatters always found themselves on girls have the receiving end falling short of glory in both categories. We understand that the a lot to show within this month, our prediction is that we will have improved attendance in the girl power workshop to be held at Sadili sports Centre on 23rd October 2009 and even better girls in society by the end of this year.
